sunday school, week [5]

because i always find the good in everything, i'd like to say thank you, Lord, for holding off my sickness until after sunday school this week. i was so excited to teach this lesson that i may have showed up with one of those surgical masks on had i been sick that morning.

memory verse:
"consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

to help the kids learn their memory verse, we played a game.

 balloon darts.

the boys really got into this game. [throwing darts and popping balloons -- who wouldn't?!]
they even let me take a turn, which was the sweetest thing.
inside the balloons were pieces of paper with words from their memory verse.
after all the balloons were popped, they had to put their memory verse in order.

this week's lesson was on job.

no, not the place you go to make money, like one of the boys asked.
the dude in the bible who had everything taken away, yet never cursed God.
that job.

job was a Godly man. he had everything: a big family, numerous livestock and servants, and great wealth.
but that all changed when God allowed satan to test job. satan was convinced job would curse God.
everything job had worked for, his children, all his livestock and servants: gone. he had nothing.
and with nothing left, what did job do? he praised and worshiped God.

even when he was struck with boils all over his body, he never cursed God.
the experiences job went through humbled him.
in the end, God blessed job with twice as much as he had before.

just as our memory verse stated, job persevered through his trials and gained even more faith.

after we learned about job, i wanted to review the story with the boys, so we played a game of baskeball.
if they answered the question right, they got 4 points. if they made the basket, they got 2 points.

this was a fun lesson to teach.
i can't wait to prepare this week's lesson tonight!
now if i can just think of what to teach.... :)
